Maddison Phillips

Chair - Maddison Phillips

Tom Robinson

Milford Sound - Tom Robinson

Tom is a Lecturer at University of Canterbury School of Earth and Environment |Te Kura Aronukurangi in Disaster Risk and Resilience. Researching earthquake and landslide hazards in mountain environments.

He was involved in research that developed a method to assess landslide hazard in regions without historical data which was a major step forward in landslide hazard research. In his thesis he applied this method to the Alpine Fault in NZ to develop for the first time a detailed estimate of the potential scale and distribution of landslides in an earthquake and the impacts of this to critical infrastructure.

Tim van Woerden

Glenorchy - Tim van Woerden

Tim is a natural hazards analyst for the the Otago Regional Council, working on natural hazard analysis, risk assessment and hazards adaptation programmes.

His key projects presently underway are the Head of Lake Wakatipu natural hazards adaptation programme, coastal hazard assessments and adaptation planning for the Clutha Delta area, and an exciting regional-scale risk assessment challenge.

His most recent qualification is an MSc in Disaster Risk and Resilience from the University of Canterbury. This thesis comprised a multi-hazard study investigating the cascade of hazard events originating from a potential future landslide dam in the Shotover Gorge, Otago.

Don Macfarlaine

Clyde Dam Landslides - Don Macfarlaine
