Invitation to Sponsor or Exhibit at LaGER2026

The New Zealand Geotechnical Society (NZGS) is delighted to invite you to sponsor or exhibit at the First International Joint Workshop of JTC1 and JTC3 on Landslide Risk Assessment, Communication, and Geo-Education (LaGER2026).

This landmark international event unites JTC1 and JTC3 to advance landslide risk assessment, education, communication, and outreach—creating a unique opportunity for real impact. This workshop is different from a normal conference. As a workshop conference it will focus on developing new science and producing real deliverables that will outlive the event and drive meaningful change in New Zealand and around the world. We look forward to your participation in making LaGER2026 a success, and to being permanently associated with the great outcomes of the workshop!

Expected attendance

This conference is expected to be attended by over 300 people spanning experts, policymakers (including central and local government) and the business sector (primarily geotechnical professionals in consulting and contracting, and risk managers including insurers) to share and explore cutting-edge issues in landslide risk assessment, management and landslide related geo-education and outreach. As a shared workshop between Joint Technical Committee 1 and Joint Technical Committee 3, we expect the most influential international experts in these fields to attend, including the JTC1 and JTC3 committee members. In addition, the International Society for Engineering Geology and the Environment will be hosting its Executive Committee meeting, so we will be joined by the President and International Vice Presidents. We expect that about two thirds of the attendees will be from Australasia, with the rest from around the world

Conference sustainability

These sponsorship packages are intended to align with our sustainability aspirations for the conference. We recognise that climate change and environmental degradation increase the risk from landslides. We are highly motivated to reduce any negative impact of our conference, for the benefit of future generations. We welcome proposals from sponsors to increase the sustainability of all our packages.

Our goal is to deliver a conference that aligns with the Queenstown Lakes' Regenerative Tourism Plan (https://www.regenerativetourism.co.nz/) and will focus our efforts on the areas in which we have the most impact:

  • Waste We will minimise waste by avoiding creating items that are not valued by our participants, and prioritise reusable options.

Lower-income Economies Sponsor - NZ$7,500 + GST

LaGER2026 is excited to announce the launch of a sponsorship scheme for delegates from countries who struggle to afford attendance at major international conferences. This sponsorship will enable delegates from less wealthy countries to attend, and to take the lessons from the workshop back to support landslide resilience in their home countries. Your sponsorship will be used to subsidise the registration fee for the first 7 delegates that are native of low-income countries and the first 5 delegates from middle-income countries (as defined by the World Bank: https://datahelpdesk.worldbank.org/knowledgebase/articles/906519-world-bank-country-and-lending-groups).

The delegates from low-income countries will receive a special registration fee of $100, and the delegates from middle-income countries will receive a special registration fee of $200.

*If the full event net carbon-zero option is selected, as well as the event itself being fully carbon zero (with accreditation), each delegate will be given access to a carbon calculator during registration which will assess the carbon emissions associated with their travel.  For all delegates who opt-in and pay for 50% of the required carbon credits to offset their travel, the conference will offset the remaining 50%.

Coffee Cart - NZ$6,000 + GST

You will have the opportunity to brand the coffee cart that will provide complimentary barista-served coffee during the workshop. The coffee cart is often a hub for social interaction and is visited frequently by delegates over the workshop. Ability to brand the coffee cart including providing promotional material in and around the cart at your expense.
